I had a pretty busy week, the boys were free, but I was back to work, accept for friday when we went to an amusementparc, called "Efteling". And I couldn't get much blogging done because I had a deadline! I promised Twan a Quilt for his birthday and since I had so much to make for christmas and the swaps I only started it last week. So all the spare time I had went it to this quilt (and I admit a new Karen Rose book on my nightstand, If I pick it up, it seems to stick to my hand till my eyes close...) We also watched the new season of Damages which was very intriguing again! It's a legal series with Glenn Close who I think is a great actress.
Yesterday after biking to the market with my son I had two hours to finish it. I had to do the whole binding. So I thought it's now or never, let's try machine binding. So I used this nice turorial from crazy mom quilts and just did it. If you look closely there's a crooked line following the binding in the back. But it was so much less work than doing it by hand! This size quilt I will need two nights in front of the tv to finish it by hand, at least. And I tink if you do it a lot, the crooked line will get straight and it helps if you choose the same colour thread as your backing (which wasn't possible with me, cause my backing is pieced). The mittered corners even worked better with the machine! So I suggest we throw away our fears and try!
I also joined "the 99". Another bee which works more traditionally. It revolves around the new quilt book 99 quilt blocks.

Ik had eigenlijk een best drukke week. De jongens waren wel vrij, maar ik was weer aan het werk. Vrijdag was ik wel vrij, maar gingen we naar de efteling (ik heb wat fotootjes bijgesloten) Ik kon ook niet echt bloggen, want elk vrij uurtje dat ik had moest ik aan het werk met Twan's quilt. Door alle drukte was ik die vorige week pas echt begonnen en gisteren moest hij af zijn... Ik moet toegeven dat de nieuwe
Karen Rose die ik voor de kerst kreeg er ook iets mee te maken had (als ik die eenmaal oppak, kan ik hem niet meer neerleggen) en de nieuwe serie van
Damages was ook weer erg leuk! Het is een serie over advocaten met Glenn Close, die ik echt briljant vind acteren.
Gisteren ben ik met Morritz naar de markt gaan fietsen, dit was natuurlijk een hele onderneming met de wind en toen ik terugkwam had ik nog twee uur tot de verjaardag. Ik moest nog de hele "binding" doen. Ik kon dus niet anders dan een tutorial opzoeken om het helemaal met de machine te doen anders ging ik het helemaal niet redden. Die vond ik bij
Crazy mom quilts. Het ging eigenlijk best aardig. Je ziet wel een kronkelend lijntje langs de band gaan aan de achterkant, maar dat is alleen als je heel goed kijkt. Het zou helpen als je het in de zelfde kleur doet als je achterkant, maar ik had drie kleuren aan de achterkant, dus dat werd lastig. De hoekjes gingen zelfs makkelijker zo, dus wat dat betreft: Proberen allemaal!
Ik heb ook een meer traditionele virtuele bee gevonden waar ik me bij heb aangesloten. Het heet "
the 99". Het is gebaseerd op het nieuwe quilt boek
99 quilt blocks. Het idee is dat iedere maand iemand aan de beurt is, een blok kiest uit het boek en stofjes rondstuurt naar de andere 11 leden om het te maken. Als je niet aan de beurt bent krijg je dus stofjes en een blok opdracht, die maak je en stuur je terug. Als je aan de beurt bent krijg je 11 blokken! Lijkt me leuk. Het begint deze maand en in juli ben ik aan de beurt. Ik hoop niet dat ze de hele moeilijke blokken kiezen, want die zitten er zeker bij en daar krijg ik de zenuwen van!
Ik ga de quilt nu showen en ook bij allerlei linky parties aanmelden. Daarna nog wat leuke foto's.
