Fedde plus quilt & Ipad hoes met rits

Now my nieces quilts are done, I quickly started a project for my youngest son. I want to give it to him for christmas. I made him a quilt for his crib, but it doesn't quite fit his cot. And it's getting colder. He sleeps in a sleeping in a sleeping bag, but some nights when it's cold an extra blanky would keep him snug. I've been collecting fabrics for it for like forever and it was nice to dig in. I decided on a plus quilt, but a different pattern I made my niece. I searched the internet for a tutorial and there were several. I picked this one from "for the love of george". It isn't so much a tutorial as a lay out. I took my cutting mat and fabrics downstairs so I could cut while making puzzles or building towers. This morning I laid it out on the flour. The colours are really working I think. All kinds of grens blues and grays. Some cars, differents stars and elephants. Which is nice for he can make the sound now (sooo cute).


Nu de quilts voor mijn nichtjes af zijn, ben ik gauw begonnen aan een quilt voor Fedde die ik hem met kerst wil geven. Ik heb wel een wiegquiltje voor hem gemaakt, maar die is eigenlijk te klein voor zijn ledikant. Hij slaapt natuurlijk nog in een slaapzak (hij is anderhalf) maar het is best koud soms. Dus een extra dekentje is dan lekker. Ik ben al tijden stofjes aan het verzamelen voor hem en het was heerlijk om ze allemaal uit te leggen en kleuren te kiezen. Misschien wel het leukste deel van het maken van een quilt. Ik heb gekozen voor een plusquilt, maar anders dan die van Merle. Ik heb op het internet een tutorial opgezocht. Er waren er meerdere, maar ik koos deze van "for the love of George", want die had ongeveer de juiste maat. Het is eigenlijk meer een patroon dan een tutorial. Ik nam mijn snijmat en stofjes mee naar beneden en sneed tussen het puzzelen en torens bouwen af en toe een paar stofjes. Alles bij elkaar was ik vanochtend klaar en heb ik hem uitgelegd op de vloer. De kleuren zijn echt leuk denk ik. Allerlei groenen, blauwen en grijzen. Auto's verschillende sterren, ruiten en olifanten (hij maakt een soort geluid nu als je zegt wat doet een olifant, zo schattig).

I made my friend Inge an iPad sleeve with a zipper with a tutorial from Freckled Whimsy. It was easy to follow and it turned out nice. I used some echino scraps and some thick unbleached neutral cotton. The pink lining really made it work. I put it in her mailbox for when she returns from Barcelona ( so jealous).


Ik maakte voor Inge's verjaardag een iPad sleeve met rits van deze tutorial. Hij lukte goed en het was makkelijk te volgen. Ik gebruikte wat echino scraps en dikke ongebleekte katoen. De roze voering maakt het echt af vind ik.

Update 20-11-2011: Yesterday evening my new niece was born. Isn't that a coincedence after this post I wrote yesterday morning. They're both doing fine. Her name is Merle (clear sea/water). Another coincedence with the name of the quilt. 


I joined the "across the sea" quilt along this summer. I made the top of the quilt some time ago. I was in doubt how to quilt it. It has plus-blocks on the back too and while sandwiching they were supposed to match the exact spot of the plusses on the front. Ahum, so that didn't happen. So following the pattern by hand or machine was no option. I'm taking a course in machine quilting, but we haven't reached the free motion part. Which I would really like tot try. But since this quilt isn't for me but for the new baby of my sister Lenore, which is due any moment, I didn't want to risk messing it up. So i chose a pattern which fits the name of the quilt long and made wavelike lines diagonally. I love the outcome. The quilt is so straight and modern, so a little roundness in the quilting just fits perfectly I think. Today the weather is nice so I made some pictures. It's not yet washed though.

Fabrics: all kinds of pinks from all kinds of designers (michael miller, amy butler, heather bailey, you name it) Some left over from baby Valerie (Filippa) quilt. I like that those babies, both girls, who will be born just a month apart are under some of the same pinks. Background is Kona medium grey. Backing is a flannel dot from Michael Miller. Of which I ordered too little, thats why the blocks are partly backed with the kona grey and we have sashings with kona light pink.

patchworck pouch & FWQAL week 13

I made my friend Vivien a patchworck pouch for her birthday. I used some echino ssraps and some of my new addiction, fabric with text on it. I've been searching the internet for it for nights! She'll probably use it as a bag in a bag! or for some make up..... I also made another two blocks for the FWQAL that went pretty smooth!


Ik maakte voor de verjaardag van mijn vriendin vivien een patchwork ritstasje van wat echino scraps die ik al 1000 keer dor mijn handen liet gaan, fantaserend wat het zou worden. Ik gebruikte ook 1 van mijn nieuwe verslavingen, stof met tekst! Heb het hele internet afgezocht, maar kan niet zoveel vinden, dus als iemand tips heeft! Ik stikte hem door met knalroze garen en maakte er een lintlus aan om hem makkelijk op te kunnen hengelen uit je tas. Ze kan het gebruiken als een "bag-in-a-bag" of voor make-upjes, of als je even de deur uit wil zonder tas met telefoon, sleutels geld.
