Boom Boom shake the room

Babyboom in my area! So I am making gifts of course. I made another divided basket from the pattern I bought from Noodlehead. It's a great pattern, easy to follow and lovely results! This time I even added front pockets. I have two more to go. I ordered the iron on names at my favorite place, I think they add a really personal touch. I also added a burp cloth to go with the basket basket.

This one I made last year, without the front pocket.
I am of to make the next! See you soon!

Snowball, maybe it will happen?

We have been waiting for it to snow, but not much so far. I guess there are parts in the world where they would be glad there was no snow for a few days in winter, but in Holland we always wish for snow, or enough frost to go ice skating. But this winter (and last) we had no such luck. Making a snowball block may help right? Because our sledges and snowboots are ready to go!

A long awaited finish! Wilde Geese

I had shown you the top before here, but now I have finished the whole quilt. After machine quilting the ditches of the blocks for some sturdiness I have handquilted in the blocks. I used several colors in pink and turquoise/green. I didn't really have a plan I just had some fun on the couch watching some of my favorite series (including homeland, scandal, etc.). I always love doing it, though I'm still no expert on keeping the stitches even. But, who looks at it that close up?

I've bound it wit some hot pink and white clovers, and the backing is a favorite Ikea fabric. The quilt isn't that big, but it is a perfect lapsize I think, for snuggling under on the couch. It will be for my dear friend Inge. The sun came out just long enough to take some pictures! All the blocks have their own character and are beautifully made by my fellow bee members. My favourite block is the little handmade star, made by my quilting friend Lotje (slootjesschilder) by hand on her camping holiday to Scotland. I imagine her sitting in front of her tent on a Scottish more stitching the little star. This is such an creative, feisty, cosy, interesting, feminine, international, petite quilt, just like Inge, they are a perfect pair.

This is ground control to Major Tom

Please sing with me!

You've really made the grade
And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear
Now it's time to leave the capsule if you dare
"This is Major Tom to Ground Control
I'm stepping through the door
And I'm floating in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today
For here
Am I sitting in a tin can
Far above the world
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do

If you read this blog more often you know songs come into my head when I am making something, mostly theme related. A lot of these songs are from either the 60's (when my dad was young and he played it a lot when I was young) or the 90's (when I was a teenager). This song was definitely theme related:

This is my contribution to "destination moon" Nicolette asked for in the comfort circle. You can find here explanation of the block here.

I loved making them Nicolette, hope you like them,

Creative boys

Morritz and Fedde asked for "good markers" for Christmas. They both like drawing very much. So that is what Santa bought. And he was happy to do so, since it didn't include a screen, fighting, yelling or other not so much loved parts of what the boys like most. But Morritz was a bit disappointed when he got them, because he wanted the markers to be in a roll like his friend had at school. So we set to work together to make a roll together fitting his markers exactly! I have made pencil rolls before and didn't use a tutorial, but just started to make it, finding out on the way! He picked out the fabrics, helped me to measure and sew, we had a good time together. And he was so happy with it he took it to bed with him and has been drawing ever since. If you ever needed motivation to make something for your kids, wouldn't that be it?

As has his little brother who, of course, wouldn't be left behind. He got a little sturdier markers, like the little man he is and we picked some penguin fabric together.

Geese - not birds this time

In the beginning of 2014 I received the block made in the "creative quiltblock bee". These blocks have travelled the world and have been lost on more than one occasion! I sent around a bit of texty fabric in turquoise, pink, red and cobalt blue. I asked everyone to incorporate some in the blocks they made. I made a flying geese block for inspiration and asked the other blocks to be anything in any size, just to have some triangles in them. I received some beautiful blocks, but I couldn't see what they would become together yet. This year I've gotten a bit more experienced in "random samplers" and the last time I picked up the pile the picture started to grow in my head. I've finished the top, though maybe I will make a border of some sort to pull it together and make it a little bigger. It's hanging on my wall for further contemplation. The creative process should never be rushed...

I've added more pink, including of course some neon

I was thinking a solid pastel aqua border...

Happy new year!

I finished some more farmers wife blocks! In 2015 I will finish the farmer's wife quilt... And the economy block quilt! I've finished more than 80% of the tops of these quilts, so I can easily say this now (I hope)

I pondered more quilty resolutions to share with you here. But I decided against it: no  more overwhelming resolutions in quilting! If I "have to" do things I do for fun something goes wrong in my head and I stop enjoying it! So let's just take it one project at the time and enjoy every step and finish. Just maybe that needs to be my resolution for real life too.... ;-) In general let's make small and not to many resolutions we can actually achieve. Not be some nagging list in the back of our brain that makes us feel guilty, or even hopeless some times. And let's make a new one when we have accomplished it or them, why wait for 2016. Are you making any resolutions?

Happy new year everyone, may all your wishes come true.

See you soon!
