Fabric shopping update

I told you before, shopping fabric in the netherlands is not so easy. I used to order some in the states but the postal rates went up again and I had to pay taxes some time too. So I looked around in england, the rest of europe and japan for alternatives. I have some good ones on my shopping tab. I discovered a new one though in japan where shipping is free when you order more than 50 euro's! www.modes4u.com It takes some time to get here, but if you're not in a hurry... They don't carry all the lines, but they do have lot's of nice fabrics. And I was hunting for the new neon line by michale miller. A triangle quilt has been bubbling in my mind using lots of greys and neutrals and some flashy neons. What can I say I am a child of the eighties! I couldn't resist some texty fabrics, some stripes (lovely for any binding) and some little boys fabric!

I planned a surprise mini break to Antwerp with my best friend for our husbands' birthday. The husbands are best friends too, sounds corny I know, but it's true. We did the same trip for their birthday 15 years ago when we were just dating them. A world of things happened in that time frame. Way too much to describe in a blogpost. What's the same is we are all still the best of friends. This weekend was a nice celebration of this friendship. Planning this outing 15 years ago was definitely easier though. We had no children, my best friend and me we're roommates so we could plan at any time. But they were still surprised, at least a little... LOL

Ik regelde met mijn beste vriendin voor hun verjaardagen een verrassingsweekendje voor onze mannen. Onze mannen zijn ook beste vrienden, lekker suf he, maar ja het is zo gegaan. We gingen naar Antwerpen. We hadden 15 jaar geleden dezelfde verrassing voor ze, toen we net pas verkering hadden. Er gebeurde heel veel met ons tussen toen en nu, te veel om in 1 blogpostje te vertellen. Maar deze vriendschappen hebben het overleefd en onze relaties ook. Dit was een leuke manier om dat even te vieren. 15 jaar geleden was het wel een stuk makkelijker te regelen. Mijn vriendin en ik waren huisgenoten en konden op elk moment overleggen zonder pottekijkers. En we hadden nog geen kinderen die gelijktijdig een logeeradres nodig hadden. Maar goed, het is gelukt, ze waren best een beetje verrast en het was leuk!

Of course I did do some research in advance for fabric shopping. They have a lovely chain store in Belgium that is called Veritas. And I visited a nice little fabric shop. Showing my loot!

Ik had natuurlijk wel van te voren gekeken of er nog wat leuks te shoppen was. Ze hebben in Belgie een geweldige keten die Veritas heet. Je koopt er stof, wol, allerlei fournituren en ascesoires. In nederland weet ik inmiddels, anders dan de markt niet waar ik heen moet voor een beetje tof assortiment ritsen. En ik vond nog een leuk stoffenwinkeltje. Even mijn buit showen!

vaak van internet, was super! Michael Miller, Petit Pan, Kokka, etc.

Ik was namelijk helemaal weg van die goudachtige paspel.
Mijn moeder heeft gevraagd om kussens te maken van deze
prachtige Linnen stof van Mulberry en daar pas hij perfect bij!

Feeding the fabric hunger!

In Holland less modern quilting fabric is available than in the states and the UK, or Japan, or... So I have ordered some from the states. But the shipping costs are pretty expensive and have been raised. It also takes some time to get here. There's also a chance you have to pay a tax fine (the exact rules escape me). So I've tried the UK. The fabrics are slightly more expensive there, but the shipping is cheaper, quicker and you don't have to wonder if there's a fine. What do you do, now the shipping rates are even higher? Any tips?

In Nederland kun je nu eenmaal minder en minder betaalbare moderne quiltstoffen vinden dan in Amerika, Engeland, Japan, .... Dus is bestel wel eens wat uit Amerika. Maar de verzendkosten waren al aan de prijs en zijn nu verder gestegen naar bijna 25 dollar voor een envelop waar ongeveer 8 yard in gaat. Het duurt lang voordat het hier is en je hebt ook nog kans dat je een soort importboete krijgt. Ik ben dus een beetje om me heen aan het kijken of er geen andere manieren zijn. Ik bestelde voor het eerst in Engeland stof bij M is for make. Het was er al binnen 2 dagen.
